Tasmanian Timber.
Generations
in the Making.
Proudly family owned and operated from Cairns Bay, Southern Tasmania. Bayview Timbers has been supplying locally milled and specialty timber to Australians for over 30 years. Now shipping online Australia-wide.
At Bayview Timbers, sawdust runs in our veins.
What began as Phillips Sawmill — founded by Ted and Daph Phillips — is now carried forward by their daughter Maree McQueen and her husband Scott, along with the next generation. The next chapter of a generational timber family.
We're proud to continue Tasmania's sawmilling tradition, combining old-school craftsmanship with sustainable modern practices to supply the timber that builds our communities. Three generations of knowledge goes into every log we mill.
You'll still find us at the mill on Scotts Road, Cairns Bay. Our customers aren't just buyers — they're business owners, builders, artists, and locals who share our love of Tasmanian wood. When you buy from Bayview, you're buying from people who have given their lives to this craft.
Genuine Craftsmanship
Three generations of knowledge in every log we mill. No shortcuts, no compromises.
You Know Who You're Buying From
Family-run means we answer the phone, know our timber, and stand behind every order.
Sustainably Operated
Full-log utilisation — nothing goes to waste, from premium slabs to sawdust.
Tasmanian Through and Through
Every piece is locally sourced and milled at our Cairns Bay sawmill. As local as it gets.
Exceptional Density & Durability
Tasmanian hardwoods grow slowly in cool climates, producing tighter grain, greater density, and outstanding durability compared to mainland species — timber that genuinely lasts.
World-Class Specialty Species
Huon Pine is one of the world's finest timbers — naturally oil-rich, rot-resistant, and uniquely Tasmanian. Blackwood and Myrtle are prized by craftspeople and furniture makers globally.
Responsibly Sourced
Tasmania's strict forestry standards and our own full-log utilisation practices mean you can buy with confidence that the timber is responsibly produced and traceable to its source.
Natural Beauty, Unique Character
The cool, wet climate of southern Tasmania produces timber with remarkable figure, colour variation, and character that simply can't be replicated anywhere else in the world.
There's a reason builders and craftspeople seek it out.
Tasmania produces some of Australia's most sought-after timber species. The island's unique cool climate, ancient forests, and strict sustainable forestry practices combine to create wood with outstanding properties — whether you need structural strength, fine cabinetry-grade slabs, or long-lasting outdoor timber.
At Bayview Timbers, we've spent over 30 years learning how to get the best from every log. That knowledge is what we bring to every order — whether you're a tradie ordering a pallet of fence droppers or a furniture maker chasing a special slab of Blackwood.
From large-scale builds to handmade crafts.

Nothing goes to waste. Every log is used to its fullest.
We're committed to sustainable sourcing and full-log utilisation — ensuring Tasmanian timber continues to thrive for generations to come.
Full Log Utilisation
Premium timber becomes slabs, boards, sleepers, and stakes. The rest becomes firewood, kindling, sawdust, and shavings. Nothing is landfilled.
Responsible Sourcing
We source from managed Tasmanian forests and private properties, ensuring supply doesn't compromise long-term forest health.
Generational Thinking
When you've operated for three generations, you think in decades — not quarters. Doing right by the land is who we are.
Supporting Local
Every order supports Tasmanian employment, Tasmanian forestry, and a family business that has operated in Cairns Bay for over 30 years.

Trade, wholesale & bulk supply — let's talk.
We supply builders, landscapers, garden centres, hardware retailers, and market gardeners across Australia. Consistent supply, competitive pricing, and the kind of personal service that comes from dealing directly with the people who mill the timber. If you're placing regular orders or need large volumes, we'd love to set up a trade account.
Things people often ask us.
We're a family business — you'll speak directly with us. Anything not covered here, just get in touch.
Get in TouchDo you ship Australia-wide?
Yes. We ship to all Australian states and territories. Shipping costs depend on product weight, volume, and delivery location. Contact us and we'll provide a freight quote with your order.
Can I order custom sizes or species?
Absolutely. Custom milling is a big part of what we do. If you have specific dimensions, species, or grade requirements, get in touch and we'll work through what's possible.
Do you offer trade or wholesale pricing?
Yes. We work with builders, landscapers, garden centres, and hardware retailers. Contact us to discuss trade accounts and bulk pricing.
What's the difference between green and kiln-dried timber?
Green timber is freshly milled with higher moisture content — ideal for turning or carving before drying. Kiln-dried timber has been dried to a stable moisture content, reducing movement and making it better for furniture, cabinetry, and joinery.
Do you have Huon Pine available?
Huon Pine is a protected species with very limited supply. We do come across it from time to time, but we can't guarantee stock. Get in touch and we'll let you know what we currently have — or we can keep an eye out for you.
How do I place an order?
Use the contact form on our website. We'll confirm availability, pricing, and freight before any order is finalised — no surprises.
