We're a family owned sawmill at Cairns Bay in Southern Tasmania, and we've been milling and selling Tasmanian timber for over 30 years. Locally milled hardwood and specialty Tasmanian timbers, now shipping Australia-wide.
At Bayview Timbers, sawdust runs in our veins.
What started as Phillips Sawmill, run by Ted and Daph Phillips, is now in the hands of their daughter Maree McQueen and her husband Scott, with the next generation coming up behind them.
We're proud to keep Tasmania's sawmilling tradition going. Old-school milling done the sustainable way, supplying the timber that builds our communities. Three generations of knowledge goes into every log we cut.

Blackwood, Myrtle, Sassafras and Celery Top Pine are sought after by furniture makers and craftspeople all over the world. Huon Pine is one of the finest timbers going, naturally oily and rot resistant, and it only grows here in Tasmania.
Responsibly Sourced
Tasmania has strict forestry standards, and we use the whole log. You can buy knowing where your timber came from and how it was cut.

Timber becomes slabs, boards, sleepers and stakes. The rest becomes firewood, kindling, sawdust and shavings.

Yes, we ship Tasmanian timber to every state and territory. Freight depends on weight, volume and where it's going, so send us your order and we'll give you a quote.
What Tasmanian species do you have?
Blackwood, Myrtle, Sassafras, Celery Top Pine, Wattle and a few others, plus Tasmanian hardwood for stakes, fencing and sleepers. Huon Pine comes up occasionally but it's limited. If you're chasing something in particular, ask us.
Can I order custom sizes?
Yes. Custom milling is a big part of what we do. Tell us the dimensions, species and grade you need and we'll work out what's possible.
Do you offer trade or wholesale pricing?
Yes. We look after builders, landscapers, garden centres and hardware stores. Get in touch about a trade account and bulk pricing.
What's the difference between green, air dried and kiln dried timber?
Green timber is freshly cut and still has a lot of moisture in it, which suits turning, carving and jobs where you're happy for it to dry out over time. Air dried and kiln dried timber has settled to a stable moisture content, so there's less movement, which is what you want for furniture, cabinetry and joinery.
How long is the wait on cut-to-order timber?
Stakes, fence droppers and rails are cut green to order, so wait times move around depending on what's on the mill. Give us a call or drop us a line and we'll tell you where we're at.
Do you have Huon Pine available?
Huon Pine is protected and supply is very limited. We come across it now and then but we can't promise stock. Get in touch and we'll tell you what we've got, or keep an eye out for you.
How do I place an order?
Use the contact form on our website. We'll confirm what's available, the price and the freight before anything is finalised. No surprises.
